New York-born DJ and producer Agent Orange has remixed the Josh Wink classic ‘Don’t Laugh’, out on 14th June via Nervous Records. Pitching down the acid-soaked original and adding a thumping kick drum, Agent Orange’s rework transforms ‘Don’t Laugh’ from peak-time weapon to terrace chugger, with techno titans Carl Cox, Adam Beyer and Nicole Moudaber already giving it support. The dub edit is even more sparse, allowing the sadistic laughing sample to take centre stage. Released back in 1995, the original, released via Josh Wink's Winx alias, is considered one of the most iconic acid house tracks of the era, amassing over 1.6 million views on YouTube to date. A dance music veteran with over 25 years in the game, Agent Orange runs the Gotham Grooves imprint. With over 70 musical releases under his belt on labels such as Toolroom, Tronic and Elevate, he regularly features in the Beatport Main and Techno Top 100 charts, with seven of his tracks rising to #1. Vinyl: https://bit.ly/2WazlSd (limited purple marbled vinyl) Digital: https://bit.ly/2HSN1NO Out on June 28th on Vinyl and Digital. The number 10 has a special meaning in our culture. We celebrate jubilees not on the 3rd or 8th recurrence, but on the 10th. Having stood by something for a decade very much proves that you are convinced that it is the right choice. The project Adriatique is approaching its 10th anniversary, but to just call it a project would be a fierce understatement. Adriatique is friendship; creativity; compromise; being together for days on end; experiencing things together for the first time; birth; rebirth; joy and pain; but above all, Adriatique is music. So, in order to commemorate these past 10 years, Adriatique bring you “X”. The three-track EP opens up with “Craft”, the energetic A-side of the record. It has been a highlight in their sets for almost a year now, and one immediately hears why: The intense percussions intertwine with the dramatic melodic elements to create a highly emotive Techno piece. Trademark Adriatique. Title track “X” transports you back into the setting of Adriatique’s debut album “Nude”. The nuanced and artistic nature of “X” reveals the vulnerable side of the duo. Closing off the EP is “Love Modules”, an uplifting Art-House track - An upgrade to their sound spectrum, so to speak. In a way, new terrain. But this is what Adriatique have always been about: not being afraid of taking new roads, constantly reinventing themselves, Finding out what feels right and then doing it. Not only does this record celebrate 10 years of Adriatique; It is simultaneously catalogue number 10 on their very own “Siamese” imprint, coincidentally occurring a decade after their consortium. Fate is a peculiar fellow, but he is smiling.
Over the past seven years Desert Hearts has become one of North America’s strongest curatorial forces for underground shades of house and techno. Through their flagship festival, touring event concepts, and record label, the brand has fostered a community of music fans in search of peak dancefloor experiences. With a diverse range of taste offered from its founding members, the Desert Hearts sound embodies a spectrum of sonics fit for any time, from day time get-downs to the darkest hours just before daybreak. It is those otherworldly moments of early morning reflection that embody the sound and direction of the label’s newly founded subsidiary, Desert Hearts Black. The label has been announced today as a creative outlet for Desert Hearts founder Marbs and fellow venturer into the deeper and darker avenues of electronic music, Evan Casey. Those who have attended Desert Hearts’ flagship festival will know Marbs and Evan from their iconic late-night sets that have become an essential part of the event’s trajectory and avant-garde appeal. DH Black will keep course with the vibe that these performances have crafted, merging the connectivity of the brand’s core ethos with the melodic and psychedelic sounds of tomorrow. In Marbs’s own words on the launch of the label, “The primary intention of Desert Hearts Black is to open up more opportunities for the community to experience and participate in the late night and early morning music heard at the festival over the years. Currently, Desert Hearts Records has represented our house community to the fullest and we want to provide that same outlet for those in our family who enjoy heavier, darker, more journey driven sounds. Someone special to me once said, ‘We can easily find our way in the light, but in the darkness is where we can truly discover who we are.’ Those moments of self discovery, especially within music, have shaped who we are and how we see the world around us. This project is aimed at creating immersive experiences, of both sound and setting, to take people deeper and reach into the far corners of the genres we love so much.” The new label will be minted by a collaborative three-track release from Marbs, Rinzen, and Evan Casey, ‘Torus’ EP, due out August 9. In celebration of the release, the trio of cosmonaut producers have released a stream of its title track, an ethereal and haunting journey into their shared cryptic psyche. Marbs and Evan have been joined by Rinzen on the debut release, a producer who has seen a momentous trajectory through his narrative based concept EPs on mau5trap and releases via key European labels like Berlin’s Steyoyoke and London’s Chapter 24 Records. Desert Hearts Black will host a release party for the EP on August 9 in Downtown Los Angeles’ warehouse district - a fitting locale for the dark trip in store. The event will feature label residents and special guests throughout the evening to be announced. More info here: https://deserthearts.us/black It is with the abundant tools of space and abstraction that Desert Hearts Black aims to project the endless internal journey of the mind onto all of those willing to dig deeper. Strap in.
Danke für die grandiose Stimmung auf dem Ikarus Festival!
Chances are, if you've caught yourself under the glow of a Drumcode festival tent across the past few months, you've heard the haunting chant of "ecstasy", the driving vocal across a mesmerizing tune called 'Space Date' that sees titans Adam Beyer, Layton Giordani and Green Velvet team together. Road tested first at fabric, Pleasurekraft has dipped the original in his own flavor of "cosmic techno". The remix has become a favorite of the Drumcode boss himself along with Maceo Plex and more. It's out June 24 on Drumcode. Pre-sale: https://www.beatport.com/track/space-date-pleasurekraft-remix/12153522
